Ignorant of this alphabet, the sounds and characters of introductions are difficult to discern.

But from the vantage point of curiosity, I know their names.

One is lack, opening her gifted envelope right away with an expression of disappointment.

Depression sits alone in the corner watching with eyes of despair.

The youngest son is tenderness, patiently holding the children who leap into his lap.

While the antagonist teases them, mocking the crying he provokes.

Labor never stops to enjoy her babies. She is consumed by the steady stream of endless tasks.

One man, home only one month of the year, looks lovingly at his family with a tear.

The other man sees only himself.

Jealousy looks with envy at her sister’s good fortune.

Beauty combs her hair in the mirror and poses for pictures while

Duty serves her mother.

Contentment smiles graciously at longing.

Youth dances with abandon.

Peace steps in when the neighbor comes complaining about the payment for his milk.

Justice is busy measuring the corn.

Sustenance sees a need and goes to the garden to offer refreshing cucumbers at midday.

Obligation does laundry.

I sit in silence watching the bright colors of yesterday’s festival saris blow in the wind.
